Kherua Mosque, Sherpur, Bogra
This historical mosque made in Sultani and Mughal period. Kherua mosque is an important Archeological site in Bangladesh. In the pre-Mughal era combination of Sultani architecture and Mughal architecture built this mosque.The location of nearly 430 years surviving mosque is 20 km south of the city Bogra, Khandaker Tola moholla of Sherpur upazila. The four corners of the mosque has survived due to the huge size of the tower, and the wide walls. Erosion has carved bricks and mortar coating has shed design. The thin red brick walls laid with mortar 1.81 meters wide. Upon the roof of a mosque with three domes Kherua exist. Kherua mosque outside the north-south length of 1727 meters, 742 meters in width. Three arched gates on the east wall. The middle one is larger. At North-South side each door are vault door. There are no thresholds so that there was no doors. Under the large of East there was a Black stone. Along the west wall of the inner part of the door the three Mehrab situated. Mehrab of the upper part adorned the wonderful carvings. The grounds of the mosque build with Mughal architectural method. The upper part made with Sultani architectural method. On the roof of the mosque (3.71 meters diameter) have three semi-circular domes. Cornice curved bow. Align the bottom of the arch-shaped panel decoration. It’s wall very nice. Aesthetic variations have been made of brick layout and vertical panels. There are parts of the bricks on the front page of Flora carved design. Tower, dome, design and diverse brick Box made whole architecture highly aesthetic. Rectangular field of green grass covered in front of the mosque. Edges of the mosque there have palm, mango, coconut and trot trees. One side there has seasonal flower trees. The whole complex is surrounded by an iron railing on the brick wall. Usually no-one does not enter into the mosque without prayer time. So the courtyard is very clean and secluded. Plants and trees surround the green environment of the ancient architecture of the mosque is pleasant.
